Carina Irlbacher - Botanische Kunst / Botanical Art

Hello! Nice to meet you!

My name is Carina and I love botanical art.

If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be curious.

Whether it’s with a pencil in hand, the delicate twist of a brush hair, or a thousand tiny dots coming together to form an image – I love capturing the beauty of the plant world and bringing it to life on paper.

How I work? In many ways!

🌸 Pencil sketches:

My heart beats for the first approach – exploring shapes, finding searching lines, and hearing the soft crunch of the eraser as something new takes form.

This is where everything can remain raw, sketchy, and playful.

🌱 Stippling with ink:

For me, it’s almost like meditation.
Dot by dot, a delicate piece of art emerges, showing just how many details nature reveals if we only take the time to look closely.

🎨 Watercolors:

This is where I like to keep things light and easy.

For quick sketches, without aiming for perfection, but with lots of joy – simply because it’s fun to play with colors.

My passion for botanical art

My blog, Botanical heART, is my little botanical retreat.

I started it because I know exactly how hard it can be to take the first step.

Maybe you’re thinking, “I haven’t held a pencil in years – where do I even begin?”

Trust me, I’ve been there! 🌟

On my blog, I share tips, inspiration, and simple tricks to help you get started without any pressure.

After all, art shouldn’t feel like science – it should feel like an adventure!

A few more things about me

  • When I’m not drawing, you’ll probably find me with dirt under my nails, working in the garden.

  • I love dancing and singing – although the latter is more for my ears than anyone else’s. 😉

  • My absolute favorite plant is the Amelanchier (Juneberry) – delicate yet so strong.

My little treasure trove (a.k.a. favorite materials)

  • Watercolors: Schmincke Horadam – vibrant, rich, and an absolute dream on paper.

  • Sketchbook: Clairefontaine "Fontaine," which so beautifully holds my ideas.

  • Pencils: Faber-Castell 9000 in various hardness levels – perfect for everything I create.

If my favorites ever change or I discover some new gems, you’ll hear about it on my blog or in my newsletter.
